Let's Get Lippy: How to Save Dry Lips in Summer

We've placed enough focus on all the amazing things that come along with summer, though a hotter climate isn't all fun in the sunshine as heat exposure can have a negative feature on our skin. You've probably read the importance of sunscreen to protect your skin from burns and damage, but today I am going to about another summer skin hazard - inevitable chapped lips that come with the heat.

A non-seasonal issue I have always seemed to struggle with is dry, chapped lips that are prone to peeling and gathering when lipstick is applied. As a sworn matte lipstick user, this has grown to be quite the issue. Today, I am going to share with you my dry-lip survival kit that also helps during the hotter months.

1) Hydration - When your lips become dry and prone to chapping, they are actually crying out for hydration. Dry lips are thirsty lips. By drinking up plenty of water everyday you can hydrate your pout from inside out! Blk water is rated highly for its mineral infused water.
2) Exfoliation - The best way to get rid of the dead skin on your lips is to exfoliate (basically scrub off the nasties). An easy at-home alternative is to mix some brown sugar with olive oil, though if you're not feeling craft this Lush favorite is a great sugar scrub to help reveal softer lips.
Tip: I like to use a 'soft' toothbrush to apply the sugar and help scrub off the all the dead skin.
3) Moisturize - Two lip balms that I absolutely couldn't go without are my Nuxe RĂªve de Miel and Blistex Relief Cream, these two products are interchangeable favorites of mine and both as effective as the other. The Nuxe lip relief is slightly thicker and grainier in texture which means it can double up as a scrub and heavy duty balm. The Blistex lip relief absorbs really quickly without leaving a tacky residue. It just depends what finish you're after!
4) Keep it Balmy - Clinique and Revlon are great for catering for moisturizing lip products - think back to last years 'Chubby Stick' craze. Another brand that is ideal for dry, stressed lips is Korres. Using Shea Butter based lip balms, Korres sell a range of 5 colour tinted lip balms. These are perfect for treating your lips as they include anti-inflammatory and wound healing ingredients & colour.

Let me know what some of your lip favourites are!
